Resumo: In the metalworking industry, processes modernization is necessary to gain market share and generate demand for services and products. Monitoring and developing techniques already in use in organizations with quality and competitive costs need improvement. The present work aims to monitor a heat treatment of a dummy block, formed basically of tool steel alloy in a company located in the north of Paraná, of the aluminum extrusion segment, and compare it with known data in the available literature. Thus, the work presents a comparison of heat treatment of a quenching, followed by three tempering steps between two critical mechanical forming tools, assessing their respective hardness. With quenching and three subsequent tempers carried out, the forging tool remained at hardness of 53 Rockwell C due to the secondary hardness peak during tempering, while the dummy block dropped from a hardness of 54 to 49 Rockwell C, decaying as expected.
