Resumo: Bench dynamometer testing is crucial for the technological development of internal combustion engines. In the challenges proposed by the BAJA program organized by SAE, the search for the optimum performance of the engines used by the prototypes is relevant, but little explored by the competing teams due to the high cost of having access to this type of equipment. In order to meet this demand from the teams, the development of a low-cost friction dynamometer was proposed, using parts widely available on the market, adapting the basic idea of the Prony brake concept. With this equipment available, it will be possible to carry out tests to certify the engine's performance, and it will be possible to predict anomalies, in addition to allowing the development of the fuel part, evaluating the engine's performance for different types of compounds. At the end of the project, the acquisition costs of the components and manufacturing costs, which were compared to the costs of acquisition of other dynamometer models available on the market. Considered that the costs related to the were significantly lower than the in the market, making its use available for academic applications.
