Resumo: The increase in smart objects has made the field called Internet of Things (IoT) receive much attention due to its great potential for use, where objects with different characteristics can be connected, enabling the emergence of new applications. There are also some challenges, such as the restrictions of those objects, limitation of the operating system and the particularity of the communication protocols used, impacting the security aspect. That’s why the importance of proper treatment for the security of IoT devices, many times, those objects cannot receive conventional security solutions. However, even before considering a security treatment, it is necessary to understand the characteristics of those devices. Therefore, the objective of the present work was to conceptualize IoT devices and propose a classification model for those devices and a governance process aimed at the security of those devices. The research was conducted using the case study model applied to the industrial sector.
