Resumo: This work has as its theme the teaching of literary reading for elementary school students. Based on the work of Antunes (2003), Candido (1989), Kleiman (2013), Rojo (2002), Menegassi (2010) and othersliterature theorists and the teaching of reading in Portuguese language classes, we sought to highlight the understanding of the importance of literature for life and the formation of society, as well as the perspective adopted by the school in relation to teaching of reading. After analyzing the reading activities of the Portuguese language textbook for the 7th year of elementary school, a didactic proposal was developed aimed at training a reader who understands and uses the processes, strategies and mental abilities that are activated at the time of reading. In order to facilitate the expected use, replicated or adapted, of the proposal that was the product of the research, a detailed and organized lesson plan was developed to work with classes of 7th grade of elementary school, final grades, which was nominated as Club of Reading.
