Resumo: Brazilian municipalities face a great challenge when it comes to measuring the sustainable development index in the area of solid waste management, especially in selective collection and in the organization of collectors, because for this to occur, sustainability indicators must be used for carrying out the diagnosis, evaluation, planning and monitoring of activities. The use of this tool can contribute to improving the quality of selective collection processes and the organization of collectors and, consequently, generate positive advances in the economy, in the quality of the environment and in the health of the population. The work in question sought to analyze the management of selective collection and the organization of recyclable material collectors in the municipality of Matelândia-PR, in the 1st half of 2021, using sustainability indicators, comparing with the same indicators obtained in 2018, identifying possible problems existing ones, through diagnostics of the solid waste management process to later propose solutions. The methodology used proposes instruments for diagnosis, planning, evaluation and monitoring of selective collection and the organization of collectors, aiming at improving and strengthening the management of urban solid waste, using indicators of sustainability. Data for the study were obtained through the application of questionnaires (based on the sustainability indicators themselves) to the actors involved in the municipal recycling plant. Then, the indexes found on the sustainability radar were used, classifying each indicator and, subsequently, obtaining the degree of sustainability of the selective collection, as well as the degree of organization of the collectors. The results show that both selective collection and the organization of pickers present positive results, reaching scores of 79.33 (very favorable) and 74.89 (favorable), respectively. In addition to determining the level of sustainability of selective collection and the organization of waste pickers in the municipality, the work also presents a set of measures that should be taken to increase the degree of sustainability achieved through a sustainability matrix, which suggests a plan for action and those responsible for carrying it out.
