Resumo: In Brazil, the most used type of covering in residential buildings are the roofs, being fundamental for the comfort and protection for its users. This system is composed by a structure of elements made out of wood and as its last layer, it has tiles that can be made out of different materials, shapes and purpose, its choice will directly influence the slope and the execution of the supporting structure. Thus, this paper discusses a comparison of consumption of material and the cost benefit of two roofing systems, one utilizing concrete tiles, which are being used in Brazil in a large scale, and the other utilizing tiles, most common in North American countries and Europe. The execution of this two roofing systems are different, in the roofing system, an oriented strand board is used over the trusses and in the concrete roofing system, purlins, rafters and slats are used, thus, the amount of wood used in which method is not the same, being able to modify the final cost of the construction. For this comparison, three residential houses were used, having three distinct areas, a small one, a medium one and a large one, changing the gap that the trusses have to support, also using two different slopes, which can change the amount of materials used. Analyzing the sizing and the budget of which case, the amount of wood used was lowered using the roofing system, making it more viable financially, but the tile and the oriented strand board by themselves are more expensive of the components of the concrete roofing system, making the roofing system more expensive.
