Resumo: This paper investigates how STEM education is mobilized in the development of mathematical modeling activities with experimentation. For this, it was based on a theoretical framework that considers elements of experimentation, mathematical modeling, and the integration of STEM education. The activities analyzed were developed by three groups of students from a 9th-grade class of elementary school from a private school in the state of Paraná, in the mathematics subject, in the year 2018. In these activities, gathered in groups, the students chose the theme of experimentation to be carried out, defined a problem, collected empirical data, performed a mathematical approach, and obtained a solution to the problem. For the analyses, audio and video recordings and written records of reports delivered by students were used. Through qualitative analysis, inspired by the research design, it became evident that experimentation was configured as a structure that allowed the integration between STEM areas through studies and research on the studied phenomena, manipulation of software for curve adjustments, use of laboratory equipment and its implications for the experimentation carried out, and on the mathematical content necessary to obtain a solution to the problem.
