Poultry farming is strongly active in Brazil, has a fundamental role in agricultural activities and actively drives the Brazilian economy. In recent years, Brazil has been one of the largest chicken producers in the world. The aviary mealworm Alphitobius
diaperinus Panzer, 1797 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae), which is considered a secondary pest of stored grains is also the main pest inside the aviary, where these insects found the ideal environment for proliferate and establish themselves. There are
great difficulties in keeping control of the mealworm in aviaries, its physiology and morphology contribute to the insect hiding in cracks, holes, equipment, etc. However, the present work was to evaluate the mortality potential against A. diaperinus of
different types of lime, diatomaceous earth and chemical insecticide and their respective combinations having a bioassay for a pre-selection of treatments that were later repeated. In a previous experiment, the treatments, insecticide and TD proved to
be efficient against A. diaperinus individually and together with other agents. Associated treatments did not demonstrate any positive interaction, but, in both experiments, the agents proved compatible to be used together, which can be further studied in future studies. |
