Resumo: DOMEX steel has high strength and low alloy, so it can be used to replace carbon steel in industrial equipment and machinery, which have a great loss of material when exposed to frictional force, thus generating high costs for the industry. The objective of this work is to analyze the wear resistance of DOMEX 700MC steel by means of tribology, after receiving a niobium-based coating, which shows greater resistance to corrosion and high temperatures. Tests were carried out in a reciprocal linear tribometer in a sample group, to estimate how DOMEX steel reacts to material wear in certain situations in which it was exposed to Nb. The tests showed that the thin films of Nb on DOMEX steel with the PMS technique reduced the coefficient of dynamic friction by 10%, with an increase of only 2% in hardness. The results indicate that the best analyzed condition was MB+Nb+CS, given that it presented the lowest friction coefficient values, and therefore, better wear resistance.
