Resumo: This paper qualitatively addresses the concept of industrial automation, and how it applies in the industrial environment. By demonstrating a real project developed for the pharmaceutical industry, the component parts of this system will be addressed both theoretically, in the literature review, and practically, in the methodology and results. For the development of the Essential Oils Extractor automation project, a system that uses programmable devices was elaborated, with the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), and the Human-Machine Interface (HMI), applied to an electric command panel. A pneumatic drive panel was also developed, in order to manipulate the mechanical components of the plant. The entire system was developed based on the NBR-5410, NR-10 and NR-12 norms in force, which establish safety standards for the operator, and reliability for the plant's operation. From the safety standards, the system uses the PLC to execute all the control logic, which maps possible failures that can cause material and human damages. Through these technologies the theoretical survey for the construction of an Essential Oils Extractor was carried out, with the logic project and then its application in a real industrial environment, analyzing the theoretical and practical results. The system was installed in the industrial plant and performed as planned. The installation happened in two stages, the first being the assembly of the panels and the conical extractor, and the second the connection of the electrical part.
