Resumo: On an industrial scale, polymers manufactured by polycondensation often requires long process times, demanding the application of techniques that make the reaction faster. One of the procedures adopted industrially to reduce processing time in polymerization by condensation reactions is the application of vacuum from the moment the reaction becomes slow. The application of vacuum removes water molecules from the reaction, which are formed as a by-product of polycondensation process, thus the reaction equilibrium is shifted towards the formation of products. The following research will purpose to seek a correlation between process time reduction and vacuum improvement applied through the analysis of reduction in the acidity of the reaction in relation to time, after the vacuum application, in batches before and after the replacement of a single-stage vacuum pump by a double-stage pump in a batch reactor.
