Resumo: With the purpose of improving the quality of projects, reducing execution failures, avoiding unnecessary expenditures of public money and complying with the new bidding law, Law nº 14.133, the present work aims to analyze different budgeting processes, and to verify the technical and the advantages of using 5D BIM in the construction of a Basic Health Unit. Thus, the methodology of this work was developed from the 3D modeling of the architecture and the elaboration of the budget worksheet and the executive schedule of the work, in order to enable the comparison of the data obtained between a CAD 2D software and a BIM 3D. With the use of BIM, the budget showed an increase of 3.86% in the total value and a reduction of 22 days in the construction period. In general, despite demanding more time and knowledge for modeling, the use of BIM 5D in public works proved to be advantageous and more assertive when compared to the use of CAD 2D.
