This paper aims to present the history of water quality monitoring for bathing in the Park of Leisure and Tourism of Santa Helena, PR. This park, also known as Santa Helena's bathhouse, was idealized by amayor of Santa Helena, Naudé Pedro Prates, before the formation of the Itaipu Reservoir in 1979. Located on the Reservoir protection strip, the Resort has a total area of 70.71 hectares owned by Itaipu Binacional. This area is given to the City of Santa Helena through a Commodate contract, currently in effect is the JD-JE/0020/22, for the operation of public leisure activities for all visitors and the local community. The water quality of the bathhouses is paramount to public health, and knowing how the monitoring is carried out is of paramount importance to reassure the population and bathers. In view of this, Itaipu Binacional, in partnership with public agencies, has been carrying out monitoring since 1985 during the summer months of each year. All water samples assessed during the entire operation periodof the Santa Helena resort (1985-2022) met the current criteria adopted, and were considered suitable for bathing. Currently, the bathing results of the Santa Helena resort are published in newsletters following the regulated norms of the National Councilof Environment.Thisstudy contributes to the understanding of the history of Santa Helena and the Parque de Lazer e Turismo de Santa Helena, organizing information and documents in a chronological sequence |
