Resumo: Conventional structural design methods consider the effects of soil-structure interaction in a simplified way. However, this effect can become determinant in the design of heavy structures in soft soils, such as the case of multi-floor buildings in clay soils. In this context, the present work presents the analysis of the effect of the soil structure interaction on the dimensioning in a building with steel structure with the use of finite element method. The foundation of the structure was initially considered by means of classical supports (fixed and pinned) and then by the utilization of elastic supports. Elastic supports consist of representing the degrees of freedom through springs in order to obtain greater accuracy of forces in the structure. By adding the springs to the model, the value of forces in some locations of the structure increased significantly, affecting the design and culminating in the need for more robust steel profiles. We can conclude that the structural analysis with the consideration of soil-structure interaction is a step that should be considered in the design to ensure a more adequate level of safety for multi-floor steel structures.
