Resumo: This paper proposes a methodology for a job-shop layout definition. Commonly, the job-shop layout problems are solved by applying the pooling of the production resources through a cellular structure. This structure is to pool the resources to process a particular product, been careful for not combine resources with the same function in the same manufacturing cell. Resources can be pooled to create sectors similarity with the same function and products visit these sectors to receive the necessary processing. In both cases the true product processing purpose is distorted and the goal becomes to use a combination of available resources. The proposed methodology was applied to a three years data period collected in a machining company. The parameters used were the total sales, the sales frequency, profitability, the total processing time and stand by time from each product, generating the products classification. The production path was compared and according to the parameters the importance degree of each link made between resources was determined based on the products importance degree. The comparison of the paths was done in ways to quantify the same routes and quantify the route differences, generating similar routes. The links were subjected to a mathematical model that determined each feature position in the layout. The developed methodology was applied to a machining company data that presents a job-shop character. The company's data submitted to the methodology enabled the development of a layout suggestion which main goal is to minimize the distance of products processing resources.
