Companies have challenges to define which type of grinding wheel has the best cost-benefit in processes at high peripheral speeds in parts of high dimensional accuracy and surface quality. This research compares the performance grinding wheels with abrasive of seeded-gel and CBN in the process of external cylindrical plunge grinding in 100Cr6 steel. It was used combinations of specific material removal rates and a range of high peripheral speed. The analysis was based on grinding performance, considering the grinding ratio (the volume of material removed from the part and grinding wheel wear volume) and specific grinding energy. As well as the geometric errors such as roundness, straightness, and grinding topography texture were verified. The results have shown that seeded-gel abrasives in certain conditions have better grinding performance and less geometric deviation than CBN abrasive grinding wheels and can be a possible process alternative. |
