Resumo: The use of structural elements design software has become an important tool to assist in the calculation procedures, which are generally extensive. In order to computerize the design pro- cedure for wooden beams proposed by the NBR project 7190 (2011), referring to the wooden structures design, this paper presents a learning support software for the Ultimate Limit State (ULS) and Service Limit State (SLS). Therefore, we developed an algorithm in the Lazarus platform, which uses the Object Pascal language for the source code development. The pro- gramming logic used for the ULS begins with the ultimate actions combination of NBR 8681 (2003), referring to structure’s actions and security, which enables the selection of the critical combination for the remaining checks. Subsequently, the user inserts the element’s dimensions and material properties, which allows the normal stress, shear stress, supports crushing and lateral stability. For SLS, is chosen the service actions combination and then is made the arrows limits and vibrations checks. As result, it was obtained the software Timber Beams Design which is able to check bent wood elements subjected to simple straight bending, with uniform distributed load and end supported element, complying the recommendations proposed in the standard. The program offers a manual that indicates how you should proceed correctly to com- plete the flowchart. Besides being used in the school environment, it can also be used in real project situations.
