Resumo: The importance of wood composites in construction had a great growth and by their use for building structural and support purposes being highlighted. The wooden beams cross-section "I", also known as "I-Joist " , are produced by combining various components in a structural element. Despite its dissemination throughout the world, in Brazil, one can cite the lack of a specific standard for this element and technological information and operationalization. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of "I-Joists" and produce a document with the main criteria for standardization of these elements. The web consisted of " OSB " (Oriented Strand Board) and the two flanges of lumber from “Pinus taeda” , with the standardization criteria "Performance Rated I-Joists ", developed by the APA ( Engineered Wood Association) . The connections between the components of the flanges were made through finger joint, considered having good resistance and adaptation to industrial process. In this work the characterization of the material used on the flanges was performed as well as the structural theoretical and experimental analysis using the criteria of effective stiffness and breaking the wooden beam cross-section "I". It Was held to create a document with the criteria for standardization of " I-Joists " .
