Resumo: The program “Minha Casa Minha Vida” aims to benefit low-income families, however, for the implementation of these houses, new lots with total absence of vegetation, and also more affordable materials and techniques, interfering with the thermal comfort of homes and quality of life of the residents. In this context, the study of the economic viability of applying the technique of Green Roof in housing units is of vital importance. For this, a research was carried out about the price of materials needed to build a Green Roof and the conventional roof. The obtained data were arranged in spreadsheets and two construction techniques were analyzed and then compared to the cost and the impact that each of them produces in the urban environment. The comparison of techniques allowed the conclusion that the Green Roof is a system with a high cost compared to conventional roof, but that, given its many advantages, its use in housing units is viable, as it provides a better quality of life, not only to the users, but also the microclimate of the neighborhood and consequently the city.
