Resumo: Bamboo has shown itself as capable of meeting the need of sustainable materials in the construction field, being a renewable and easily obtained material. Its strength and rapid growth have boosted its use; however its geometry, dimensional variations and lack of standardization have been limiting its use for structural purposes. This paper presents and discusses an experimental analysis of Glued Laminated Bamboo (GLB) beams, which are composed of bonded sheets. These beams were tested in static bending and parallel to the grain compression tests, and its mechanical properties compared to some types of wood. The results showed the potential use of GLB, since it presented properties comparable do hardwood, proving the viability of its use. Finally, it is aimed to encourage and foster the use of Glued Laminated Bamboo and its standardization.
