Resumo: The structural engineering has advanced in design techniques and, mainly, in pathologies diagnosis and lifespan of your buildings. There are several methodologies for verify stability of a structure and, within Non-Destructive Evaluation, it is relevant to mention the Damage Detection by Modal Analysis. Considering that cracks presence in materials modifies elastic properties (stiffness) and dynamic mechanical properties (natural frequencies, damping and modal displacements), the Changes in Modal Curvatures Method has been widely discussed for detection of these damages in structural elements. In this paper was performed a study case with steel profiles in free-free support condition and insertion of damages in predefined points, with the aim of to investigate method viability. By the physical-geometric properties of structural shapes, it was calculated the changes between curvatures of first six modes, in a frequency band from 0 to 700 Hz. It was analyzed also variance among natural frequencies and damping of intact beam and damaged beam. The interference of noises in measurements was meaningful when admitted only three mode shapes. As a final result, at least five mode shapes, and measurement of low noise level, the method is efficient in detection and location of one damage and two simultaneous damages.
