Wood connections with dowel type connectors have different characteristics when compared to other connection techniques in wood structure. Johansen (1949) was one of the leading scholars about connections by dowel type connectors, in his models he predicts the bond strength from relationships between resistance of embedding in wood and bending the dowel, disregarding phenomena such as friction, among others. When subjected to efforts, the connections deforms and second-order phenomena not quantified in Johansen's theory may occur, bringing a gain resistance to the connection. Some of these phenomena are considered by the analytical model in EUROCODE 5, however, the Brazilian NBR 7190 there is no consideration of side effects. Based on this context, this paper aims to demonstrate and quantify the strength gain caused by the side effects, comparing calculated values and experimental tests values. |
