Brazil was already home of some of the highest skyscrapers of the world in the last century in its megacities Rio de Janeiro e São Paulo. However, it remained 47 years with the height record of buildings intact, being exceed just in 2014 in the city of Balneário Camboriú, while in the rest of the world the skyscrapers have spread and reached expressive heights. In order to explore the reasons of this stagnation and the recent verticalization in the country, it was carried out a bibliographic review focusing mainly on the cities of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Balneário Camboriú to obtain a national panorama. It was discussed laws, standards and decrees about skyscrapers and also it was carried out a study about the verticalization process of these cities. In addition, the Brazilian verticalization was compared to other countries. Analyzing all the collected information, it was possible to note that the urban legislation was the main limiting factor to skyscrapers height in the studied period and that the recent high-rise buildings trend in the country was driven by the flexibilization of these laws. |
