Resumo: The main objective of this work is to study the use of a solid waste formed on steel surface during steel manufacture, called mill scale, to replace 10%, 20% and 40% sand percentages as a small aggregate in the concrete with mix proportioning 1:2:3. This used Portland cement CP II-Z and a water/cement ratio of 0.65. For the study of the concrete’s characteristics, water absorption tests were carried out, and the aggregate’s granulometry was verified by manual grinding of the mill scale, compressive and tensile strength, as well as the modulus of elasticity of the concrete produced. The results obtained presented great variations and inaccuracies to determine a mix proportioning with precision, however, the concrete produced with addition of 10% of mill scale showed more agreement to the reference concrete.
