Resumo: MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) is a mechanism of computer network designed to make the IP routing can be anticipated in another layer of the lower level. Thus, the switching occurs faster. Additionally, in general applications the loss of datagrams is not desirable. One of the characteristics that has impact on loss of datagrams is the processing time frames in tasks of commutation. However, if the commutation can be anticipated, there is less probability of loss. This paper presents the MPLS mechanism and evaluation of a scenario in which it is extended to the local network, since the legacy MPLS operates only in the wide area context. The evaluation results show that the extension of MPLS to the local network can contribute significantly to reducing the loss of datagrams.
