Resumo: In order to obtain high purity silica from rice husk were carried out chemical and thermal treatments suitable to eliminate organic matter and impurities present in the residue. It was assessed following treatment by switching the order of the acid treatment and calcination, and the calcination method. To identify the effect of these variables has been determined the surface area of the silica samples using Quantachrome NOVA 1000 equipment. Anchored the catalyst (sulfated zirconia) on silica, using equipment Chembet TRP / TPD 3000 Quantachrome held acidity analysis with absorbato the basis of ammonia, which identifies the fixation of the catalyst on the support. The results indicate that higher surface area (over 240 m2 g- 1) is obtained when the material is initially treated with HCl, regardless of the proportion of the aqueous dilution used in the acidification and is then calcined 300 °C to 800 ° C at the rate of 50 ° C hr-1. Since the acidity of the supported catalyst values higher than 0.245 NH 3 mmol g-1 catalyst. Thus, studies indicated that the silica produced from rice hull, showed characteristics suitable for its application as a heterogeneous catalyst support, being environmentally and economically feasible.
