Resumo: This work aims to evaluate the current management of solid waste of health care services (SWHCS) produced in public establishments in the city of Campo Mourão, Paraná, and propose improvements or adjustments taking into account existing laws. The study was conducted through semi-structured interviews with a questionnaire to those responsible for establishments and quantify residues using balance, prioritizing establishments that meet the Unified Health System (UHS) and we also used observations “in loco”. We selected five (05) Basic Health Units (BHU) representing almost 50% of these establishments located in different districts of the city. In all establishments, employees who were interviewed stated that there was generation of SWHCS from groups A, B, D and E, according to Resolution RDC 306/2004 and CONAMA Resolution 358/2005. The BHU had a higher solid waste generation of group D (85% on average), with a generation rate of around 0.105 kg / patient / day. After the interviews and observations in the places, the data obtained were compared with RDC Resolution 306/2004 and CONAMA Resolution 358/2005 which are the main laws in force for the management of SWHCS. It has been found that these establishments have irregularities that may arise from lack of knowledge and preparation of employees to deal with segregation and packaging of SWHCS. For employees conduct a proper management of SWHCS is required to implement the program of continuing education. Thus, this research will bring contributions to the environment and health, aimed not only UBS surveyed, but all establishments providing public health services of Campo Mourão to improve the management of their SWHCS.
