Resumo: The pollution of groundwater has attracted attention for cause damages to the environment and to people, since its use for public supply is increasing. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of banana pells and its biochar, used as adsorbents in the process of adsorption of the manganese metal in groundwater, for purposes of public supply. For this, the adsorbents (pell, pell without hemicellulose and biochar of banana peel) were produced, in which were did tests of pH, electric conductivity, humidity, volatile material, ash content, fixed carbon, particle size distribution and density. The kinetic study was performed for each adsorbent produced. The characterization of the adsorbents showed the applicability in adsorption processes. The data obtained in the kinetic study were better adjusted to the theoretical values of pseudo-second order and showed that the adsorbents have a good retention capacity of the manganese ion, all with maximum removal efficiency (100%), indicating the possibility of to be used in the treatment of groundwater for public supply which is contaminated by this metal.
