Resumo: This work aims to analyze the Registers of Semiotics Representation (RRS) used by students to solve open-ended questions related to first-degree functions. In order to reach this, data were collected by the application of an instrument composed by open-ended questions. To solve them, students had to make treatments and conversions of RRS. This instrument was administered to students in a class of first year of an undergraduate course of Mathematics from the Federal University of Technology -Paraná-Campus Cornélio Procópio, in order to verify the different registers of representation used by students, conversions and treatments performed by them in dealing with the proposed questions. As the main results, it was found that the facility is increased when students use treatments of RRS. With regard to the conversion of RRS, it was found that the major facility exists when students have to convert RRS from natural language to RRS in sets form. It is important to say that the RRS more used –and the more frequently correct –was numeric RRS.
