The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of a training program on the performance of wheelchair rugby practitioners. The research is pre-experimental with a cross-sectional design. The twelve participants are from the wheelchair rugby team Gladiators Curitiba Rugby. Participants were submitted to the protocol for Beck motor battery evaluation. The battery consists of five physical tests specific to the rugby wheelchair. The normality of the data was tested using the Shapiro-Wilk test. The differences between the means of the general test score (before and after) were tested using the student's "t" test for paired samples. The Wilcoxon test was used to test the differences between before and after the five physical battery tests. The level of significance was set at p≤0.05. The functional classification of the participants was distributed as follows: classification 0.5 (16.7%); Classification 1.5 (16.7%); Classification 2 (41.7%); Classification 2.5 (25%). The etiology of the lesion of the participants is heterogeneous, with the most prevalent being CML and Dejerine Sottas. The results between the test and re-test times of the Beck battery showed a mean improvement in all five tests, after 12 weeks of training. The MAN test (ball handling) averaged 21.49%; LOCK (blocking performance) with 9.03%; PREC (pass accuracy) with 16%; PASS (long distance pass) with 34.4% and VEL (speed of 20m) with 10.26%. After these analyzes, it was concluded that this period between evaluations was sufficient for the change in the levels of physical abilities in a positive
way. |
