Resumo: The aim of the study was to describe the R-R intervals behavior obtained by the time domain heart rate variability (HRV) in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu athletes while at rest. The sample was composed of 17 athletes with mean age of 18±35yrs amd a minimum experience of two years within the sport. Heart rate variability was collected In order to gather the data. Measurements were taken with a Polar® heart rate monitor and a WCS Pulse® device connected to a laptop with real time data transmission. The heart rate monitor belt was placed at the xiphoid process of the subject who stayed still at the supine position for a period of five minutes. Data were filtered and analyzed through Kubios HRV® 2.1 software. Results showed mean values of 845±120 ms to R-R intervals and standard deviation (SDNN) of 77±27 ms. These findings represent lower mean figures and similar standard deviation values when compared to similar studies in the literature. Some findings suggest that this could be a consequence of physical or physiological stress still acting in the subject's organism. Given the fact that no resting guidelines were given to the days preceeding the tests, such hypothesis could be relevant.
