Admission to the university provides students with numerous academic and personal experiences. This period represents a stage in which major changes in lifestyle occur which include physical activity and other behaviors. The understanding of the motives and the changes in the lifestyle profile of these can help to devise strategies so that the students do not have their behaviors modified in a negative way with possible damages to the health. Thus, the objective of this research is to analyze the profile of the lifestyle and level of physical activities of university students of Physical Education. To do this, a survey was conducted in a group of students (n=21) selected for convenience and voluntariness. Participants were academics from the first period of the Physical Education Course of a public educational institution who voluntarily agreed to participate. The present study was characterized as a quantitative descriptive survey, presenting a cross - sectional design. The lifestyle profile was evaluated by the FANTASTICO Questionnaire that evaluates nine lifestyle domains and the level of physical activity by IPAQ short version. Two thirds were women, the mean age of participants was 21.6 ± 4.7 years, body mass of 65.6 ± 14.4 kg, height of 1.7 ± 0.1 m and BMI 22.7 ± 2, 4 kg/m 2. No student was classified as regular or in need of improvement per the fantastic lifestyle score. Six (28.6%) classified as "good", eleven (52.4%) as "very good" and four (19%) as "excellent". Thirteen (61.9%) met the recommendations (150> min/wk) for physical activity, seventeen (81%) met the recommendations for moderate intensity physical activities and nine (69.2%) met the recommendations (75> min/wk) for vigorous physical activity. In all categories, the proportion of men meeting the recommendations is higher than women. Although the proportion of those who meet the recommendations is high, it is necessary to look at each of the fantastic lifestyle items. Special care should be taken in items where the proportion of those who have inappropriate behavior is equal to or greater than 30%. The results allow us to conclude that in the present sample, although the profile of the lifestyle and the level of physical activity are satisfactory for the majority, special attention should be given to items with a high proportion of students with inappropriate behavior. Yet, special attention should be given to women. |
