Beach volleyball has been transformed into a commercial product spectacular and broadcast on television on a global scale. Currently, beach volleyball occupies a prominent position in the Brazilian and world sports scene. At the Olympic Games, for example, it is one of the most sought-after modes by the public, both live and broadcast. In this perspective, this research intends to analyze the media's looks, especially of television, in the transmissions of the female beach volleyball with respect to the frames in the athletes, showing the body of the women as one of the main attractions of the modality. The general objective was to analyze why the woman is objectified by television, in beach volleyball. For this, this research has a qualitative nature and descriptive character. A questionnaire adapted with discursive questions was used as instrument of data collection. Participated 10 athletes, 2 technicians and 2 event organizers. The data were analyzed through the Theory of Male Domination, proposed by Pierre Bourdieu. The results showed that participating athletes, coaches and organizers responded that they mostly agree with women's beach volleyball uniform, and that television explores this structural feature of beach volleyball. In this sense, we conclude that beach volleyball is a product marketed and spectacularized by television, which is operated by a commercial logic, using the sensual appeal of the players to leverage the transmissions. |
