Resumo: The Grand Jeté is one of the most well known steps in the world of classical dance. This body element is taught as one of the first jumps of the dance and has well defined criteria during the execution, such as; good thrust and flight height, showing its well defined design that is fixed during the aerial phase. To achieve these parameters, in the Grand Jeté jump the dancers need to raise the center of gravity in order to project one leg forward and the other back, showing a minimum angle of 180º between them. In view of this complex execution the present research had the objective of identifying the relation of the strength of the lower limbs with the performance of the Grand Jeté jump. Eleven (11) dancers older than 18 years of age participated in the study, in which the strength of the main muscles involved in the Grand Jeté jump was quantified by means of the peak torque values (PT) of the flexor and extensor muscles of the hip, knee and ankle. In addition, it was analyzed, based on the kinematics, the performance (amplitude and height) of the jump during the flight phase. The data were submitted to a descriptive analysis (mean and standard deviation), as well as a chi-square correlation (x²) of Pearson between the variables of peak torque (force) and jump performance. The level of significance will be p <0.05. The results obtained were that the hip and knee flexors revealed higher peak torque values. Thus, it was possible to identify the relationship of the strength of the lower limbs with the performance of the Grand Jeté jump, especially the hip flexor and extensor muscles in which they achieved the desired performance in the movement.
