Resumo: Handball is the most practiced sport in Brazilian schools. Brazilian handball has some achievements in the international arena, such as Pan American Games, and the adult women's world cup of 2013, this is the country's greatest achievement in this modality. However, the sport is little televised, which diminishes its visibility to the public and, mainly, the sponsors and investors, reducing the incentive to the sport and the results of the teams. This study aims to analyze the reason why handball has little visibility in the Brazilian television media. This research has mixed methodology, that is, it is qualitative and quantitative and descriptive character. As a data collection instrument, a questionnaire with 11 open questions was used, which was answered by 21 handball athletes from the base category of a private college in the city of Curitiba, Paraná. Data analysis was done in two fronts, the first in quantitative form, with presentations in graphs and percentages and the second in a qualitative way with analysis of sentences, both fronts were analyzed based on the theoretical reference. The results show that athletes do not have a solid knowledge about handball, having difficulties in relating the sport they practice with television. The conclusion of the study is that handball does not have great representation in the television media because it is not an internationally winning sport, influencing the lack of knowledge of its practitioners.
