Resumo: The increase of life expectancy is concomitant with individuals aging and the growth of the populations in more advanced age groups, it brings a greater concern about health and life quality, situation that favours the participation in sport activities both individual and in groups. Among the collective sports, it is mentioned Basketball, a modality known and practiced worldwide, which brings physiological and social benefits to its participants. The aim of the present study was to compare the level of perception of life quality and its domains in master athletes practicing basketball, divided into two groups, group 1: aged from 45 to 59.9 years old, and group 2: aged from 60 years old or over. The present study had a cross - sectional character with a comparative descriptive design with intentionally selected sample. The sample consisted of 24 athletes, 12 of whom were between 45 and 59 years of age and 12 with 60 years of age. The following questionnaires were used: IPAQ-short version to verify physical activity time; WHOQOL-BREF for quality of life analysis; and the Economic Classification Criterion (ABEP) with the sociodemographic questionnaire to characterize the sample. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS software. First, the descriptive statistics of the sample were carried out with the purpose of characterizing the sample. We also performed the Mann-Whitney U Test for unpaired samples between the athlete groups. For all analyses, a significant level of 5% was considered. The variables were presented as mean, percentage and standard deviation. Among the results obtained, most of the athletes are white, social class A, most have a complete higher education and all are physically active and have a positive perception of health. In the comparison of means of quality of life, the group of athletes over 60 years of age showed a better perception of quality of life and all domains in relation to the group of athletes aged 45 to 59 years old. In inferential statistics, only the environmental domain of quality of life has shown to be significant for athletes who are over 60 years of age. It is concluded that the practice of basketball favours an environment with better social relations, providing master athletes a better perception of life quality.
