Resumo: The use of wastes in geotechnical engineering can be an alternative of great technical interest, besides reducing environmental impacts. This is because what is usually discarded can be used as a cementing additive to improve mechanical behavior of soils. The present research aims to analyze the mechanical behavior of a characteristic soil of the Curitiba/PR region treated with ceramic polishing waste (CPW) and lime. For this, characterization tests of the soil-RPC and soil-RPC-lime mixtures were carried out. Also, uniaxial compressive strength test (qu) of the mixtures with 28 days of cure were performed. It was possible to observe that the CPW had a similar behavior to the lime in the mixture’s properties. In addition, both mixtures soil-CPW-lime and mixtures soil-CPW showed an increase mechanical behavior of the soil. The increases were up to, approximately, 400% or 5 times the value of the natural soil qu. It can be proved that the RPC is an adequate alternative in the treatment of the studied soil.
