Resumo: This paper presents the creation of a plug-in in BIM software, Autodesk Revit®, with the function of assisting in waste management. With the development of the Plug-in using the BIM platform, reference in 3D modeling, it is possible to start the study of the generation of waste while the design of a building is developed. Practicality in conjunction with technology is the differential of this model, which provides the application of a waste generation index for each material. This index is added to the BIM Software as a new parameter. Its value can be changed by each user, considering regional factors such as labor quality, construction methods and process management. As research strategy, the plug-in was applied to a single-family housing project. From the 3D model and Plug-in created it was possible to generate discriminated results of the generation of residues in the residence, making the separation of the residues according to their class of aggressiveness to the environment. The validation of the method was performed, based on the method of Solís-Guzmán et al. (2009). It was concluded that this method, based on the apparent consumption of materials per square meter, can generate distortions in the results compared to the use of the BIM method, which uses the actual volume of materials used in the project. The distortion is related to regional and production factors, which may have their influence reduced with the use of the plug-in created.
