Resumo: This paper provides the framing of an automated irrigation system applied to strawberry plants. The automation purpose for this case is the manpower shrinkage, avoiding the need of the farmer to shift daily to the plantation. This automation system also reduces the water consumption because it’s intend to improve it’s consumption adding to the environment. The central element of this system is the microcontroller that enabled all logical foundation to the process in only one element. It has a reduced cost when compared, for example, to programmable logic controllers (PLCs) that are largely applied in the automation field. The use of moisture and temperature sensors ensure that the irrigation is effective. In addition to the local controller, an application has been created and installed on the farmer’s computer. That way he can follow the condition of the irrigation process, the soil humidity values, the temperature and all the parameters that were defined on the controller from the inside of his house using the RS-485 communication. Lastly the results and the system behavior acquired by the automation system are analyzed showing the installation availability based on the results and on the implementation costs.
