Resumo: The crisis that affects the electric field is one of the most discussed topics nowadays in Brazil. Such crisis culminates on the high prices that consumers have to pay, and that is the panorama from which the debate on the necessity of new policies concerning the electrical generation in the country arises, considering that the potential of hydroelectric sources, widely exploited in the country, is close to be saturated. In the same way has shown a great deal of fragilities such as the incapacity to produce electric energy during long drought periods, being susceptible to seasonality effects. Thus, renewable energies, e.g. solar photovoltaic and Eolic, represent excellent options to fulfill part of the demand for electricity, mainly for its sustainable aspect and for the expressive potential of these sources within national territory. This work aims to develop the study of the complementarity among solar photovoltaic and Eolic sources in the energy supply of Parana, that is, to bring up the potential of how much these sources would be able to generate electric energy, based on the climatic and geographic conditions of the State, as well as to demonstrate, in a comparative way, through scenario analysis, the impacts that these renewable sources could bring in the Parana energy supply. To carry out this work, there was the necessity of a bibliographic review on the concepts of solar photovoltaic and Eolic energy, as well as the research of their potential and of the energy supply of Parana. From this research, it was possible to estimate how much energy each source – solar photovoltaic and Eolic, would be able to produce. Results were compared to the Parana energy supply, showing the relation of generation and consumption, and clearly evidencing the contribution of each source. Considering the results of this study, it became clear that the generation of solar photovoltaic and Eolic energy is an excellent technical option, capable of solving the problems of current demand for electric energy of the State and yet contribute with the energy supply of other Brazilian states.
