Resumo: The increased investment in information technology infrastructure has led large corporations to build large data center, seeking to safely house the storage devices and data processing. The absence of national normative that provide the parameters for this type of building motivated this work, which aims to draw up guidelines for architectural projects for data center buildings. The methodology used in this study was the analysis of the TIA-942 standard and the data center layered system classification developed by The Uptime Institute. Resulting in the presentation of condensed form and objective of the information of the literature, made possible perception that existing references are focused in the areas of security and network infrastructure and does not provide sufficient detail for the other areas. These results emphasize the need to prepare comprehensive national standard, covering the specifications of areas for the installation of mechanical and electrical equipment in the data center, because the negligence in the design of these areas can create limitations on the use of the full capacity of the building
