It has been looked for to improve the energy efficiency of buildings trying to
follow the ideas of sustainable development. The construction industry is known
as a strong generator of environmental impacts, so the sector is increasingly
criticized because of the waste of raw materials. Gypsum is a material that has
been highly used in construction, regarded as one of the most consumed
construction materials in the world, thanks to its potential resistance, thermal
and acoustic isolation, high durability, ease of installation and low cost.
However, it is difficult to reuse it. We constructed prototypes with concrete
blocks, one with and the other without the inclusion of gypsum waste inside the
holes of the blocks. It was possible to compare both results, analyzing the
thermal and the acoustic properties. The obtained results lead to an
improvement of the thermal isolation and an indifference in the acoustic
isolation. The conclusion achieved was that it’s viable to extinguish the solid
waste trying to reach the desirable improvement. |
