Tolkien aiming to demonstrate the analogous position to the myth it occupies in relation to the Greek tragedy according to Boal’s (2005) interpretation about Aristotelian poetics. In order to do so, we resort to the monomyth structure by Campbell (2007) comparing the literary work and Oedipus’ myth, in accordance with Murray’s presentation (1912) and in Oedipus Rex by Sophocles (2007). Through this study it can be observed how Túrin Turambar, protagonist of the novel, assumes the role of a tragic hero in parallel with Oedipus, and how the development of his heroic journey could be represented by a tragic drama according to the classical model. Este trabalho, inserido nos estudos de Literatura Inglesa, analisa o romance Os filhos de Húrin (2009) de J.R.R. Tolkien a fim de demonstrar a posição análoga ao mito que ocupa em relação à tragédia grega, conforme a interpretação da poética aristotélica de Boal (2005). Para tanto, lançamos mão da estrutura do monomito de Campbell (2007) na comparação entre a obra literária com o mito de Édipo, em conformidade com o que é apresentado por Murray (1912) e na peça trágica Édipo Rei (2007), de Sófocles.
