The steady increase of paper consumption is a consequence of the capitalist society where we live in. Paper industry causes environmental impacts due to a high level of natural resources consumption, such as wood and water, besides the use of toxic chemicals in papermaking. The sustainability incentive is one way to alleviate these environmental impacts. Environmental education and ecodesign development contribute to create conscious consumers. The excessive consumption results in a huge amount of waste. Due to a deficit in the selective waste collection in our country, most materials aren’t forwarded to recycling cooperatives. Paper recycling contributes to environmental preservation, and it’s a way to make differential graphic designs. The use of recycled handmade paper in corporate gifts, which are intended to pharmaceutical laboratories, shows it’s possible to innovate and add value to items that should probably be discarded. |
