The development of mechatronic devices usually involves different domains such as electronics, computing and mechanics. By involving different engineering areas, the construction of mechatronics prototypes demands the use of different equipment and methods, which could lead to increasing costs and development time and other types of obstacles. The same could be stated for small scale production and for special batches. In such a context, we developed a CNC machine that enables the machining of parts with tolerances inferior to 0.2 mm, the prototyping of printed circuit boards up to two layers with traces of 0.3 mm and the manufacturing of plastic parts using fusion and deposition method with minimum resolution layers of 0.2 mm. Such a machine could fulfill the main needs of the prototyping process of mechatronic devices. The technical requirements of the machine were defined considering its application in the development and manufacturing of AGV. The structure of the equipment was fabricated in aluminum and the axes are rotated using ball screws powered by step motors. All the axes and peripherals are controlled by a dedicated controller that works in conjunction with the control software that allows the operation in both manual and automatic modes. |
