Visiting some industrial companies and conducting a preliminary market research, we could observe that several companies in Curitiba area were using a plastic thermoforming process, responsible for producing plastic ware, based on manually operated machinery only. Such a process tends to have limitations due to the lack of automation. Seeking to improve this process, the objective of this study was to develop a prototype automated vacuum thermoforming machine, by means of a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and with the support of CAD tools (Computer Aided Design). The resulting prototype is capable of operating with sheets of PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate), ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) and Polycarbonate with dimensions between 50 x 207 mm and 319 x 289 mm. The process takes about 60 to 90 seconds depending on the thickness of the sheet. It can be applied mainly in the auto parts, packaging, toys and household industries. |
