Resumo: The pollution caused by marine debris is an issue that is directly linked to industrial growth and consumption of disposable goods. However, this is a relationship that would not be necessary if the population had the basic knowledge about the impacts that marine litter concerned, both for the economy of coastal regions, and for leisure, the health of the local fauna and the human being. In this sense, it is believed that environmental education is a very important tool for the scenario currently found to be modified. Some aspects of environmental education prioritize outreach work aimed at children, so that they have conservation principles embedded in their training base. Faced with this reality, it was proposed that awareness-raising activities were conducted with elementary school children from two public schools to collect information on the knowledge they already had on the marine litter issue and what they learn after the activities proposals. The activities were conducted in different settings, one of the schools located in the city of Curitiba, capital of Paraná and one in Pontal do Paraná, coastal region of the state. The choice for carrying out the activities at these sites was due to the interest in understanding the environment in which children live near and far from the sea, interferes with the formation of opinion on the subject. The children were evaluated by applying mental maps and observation logbook aid. With the information obtained in the process was made in an informative primer on the topic discussed. This material is intended to assist environmental education actions, highlighting items considered relevant and interesting for children. From the activities, one can observe that children who live on the coast showed greater interest in the subject than those who live furthest from the marine environment. Thus, the data obtained in the classroom, through the activities were used for choosing the topics discussed in the booklet, which includes use of a mind map, facts about the negative effects of marine debris in the environment and some activities like solving this problem. It is hoped that the booklet is published and used for the purpose for which it was created: Environmental Education.
