This graduation thesis deals with agreements between Brazil and other South America Common Market (MERCOSUR) countries regarding the transmission and commercialization of electricity. The topics approached are the MERCOSUR electricity exchange and also transmission network rules, with a strong emphasis on electricity interaction between Brazil and Paraguay as well as the quantitative and qualitative aspects regarding Itaipu Binacional hydropower plant as a relevant and efficient example of electric integration of neighbors countries. Overmore, to compare the MERCOSUR and the European block MIBEL regarding electricity interaction was also goal of this research. In order to properly cover the aforementioned topics, it was also necessary to study technical aspects of Itaipu Binational, electricity commercialization, generation capacity, regulatory rules, and transmission capacity. During the research, some problems regarding the lack of proper electricity exchange planning that could facilitate the creation of this electricity market between those countries were identified. Finally, some comments and analyzes were done in order to suggest potential improvements in the studied electric systems. |
