Resumo: The objective of this project is to investigate the technical feasibility of installing photovoltaic panels connected to the grid with power backup, in gas stations and to make a comparison between the backup systems that include battery banks and diesel generator. For this reason, it presents the main concepts of solar energy, the effects of solar radiation, the history of photovoltaics besides the main raw materials and materials used in the technology of photovoltaic modules. We conducted a brief distinction between the types of existing photovoltaic systems, with deepening in network-connected photovoltaic system with backup, demonstrating its main operating steps. In the last phase of the project a study of deployment of photovoltaic modules on the roof of a gas station was developed. The gas stations is located in the city of Colombo - PR, demonstrating sizing a PV system connected to the network and all its components, the battery bank and a diesel generator.
