Resumo: Wear and corrosion of final products and industrial equipments are frequent concerns for the various industrial segments. An alternative to attenuate this problem is the use of protective superficial layers which are resistant to working conditions in these environments, as for example Fe-Al intermetallics layers. In a previous study, the effects of using controlled atmosphere in the diffusion treatment of sprayed aluminum in ABNT 1020 steel were analyzed, especially regarding the homogeneity, hardness and thickness of the intermetallic layer formed. The objective of this project was to progress in these layers study by wear abrasion evaluation using rubber wheel tests. It was possible to identify the influence of aluminum content, fragility and porosity in wear resistance, whereas the intermetallic layer which less exhibited the mentioned characteristics had the best performance in the abrasion tests.
